Microsoft has announced that support for Windows 10 will end in October 2025. End of support means that Windows 10 will no longer receive security updates and patches from Microsoft for security vulnerabilities. Over time it will become more vulnerable to viruses and malicious software.

With previous versions of Windows, Microsoft has allowed their business clients to purchase an ongoing support plan, for an annual fee. For the first time, Microsoft will be offering this service to consumers. So, if you’re still running an old PC that will not support Windows 11, or if you have applications that will only run on Windows 10, you will be able to purchase ongoing support for your systems. There is a catch – while it looks like the initial fee will be around $60USD per machine, this fee will double with each consecutive year. Part of this is to encourage people to upgrade to newer hardware and software, allowing for faster and more secure systems.

Microsoft have also announced they will also be ending support for their stand-alone Office 2016 and Office 2019 versions also from October 2025. If you are still running these versions, now is the time to plan and budget for an upgrade. Office 2024 is expected to be released later this year, or if you can’t wait, Office 2021 is still available for purchase – please contact us for pricing. Of course you can always switch to using Microsoft 365, so you're always on the current version! We can help make that transition run smooth.

We can also assist you with upgrading to Windows 11. Whether it’s an in-place upgrade, a new machine, or if you just want to know if your current computer will support it, we can help. Contact us today.
